television series. It includes interviews with top reading experts, free e-cards

Reading Rockets has a new Web site about reading for Spanish-speaking parents
that provides information, activities, and advice on helping children learn to read
and succeed at school. The Web site features beautiful illustrations from Caldecott
Award-winning illustrator David Diaz, video clips of celebrities such as the late
beloved Celia Cruz, and skill-building activities that draw upon Spanish-language
songs and rhymes. The site also has empowering suggestions for parents who
may not speak English.

Get Ready to Read!

Get Ready to Read! is a national campaign to build the early literacy skills of
preschool children. The program brings research-based strategies to parents and
early education and child care providers for helping prepare children to learn to
read and write. This site is part of NCLD's initiative to provide parents, educators,
health-care professionals, and advocates with tools to help build early literacy
skills.

National Center for Family Literacy

The National Center for Family Literacy at is a nonprofit organization supporting
family literacy services for families across the United States through programming,
training, research, advocacy and dissemination. NCFL's services include
professional development for practitioners who work in children's education, adult
education, English as a Second Language, and related literacy fields; model

advocacy support to sustain and expand literacy services for families; and the

Book Adventure

Book Adventure is a free, reading-motivation program for children in grades K-8.
Children create their own book lists from recommended titles, take multiple-choice
quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary

International Children's Digital Library

With participants from around the world, this 5-year research project is building an
international collection of children's books that reflects both the diversity and
quality of children's literature. Currently, the collection includes materials that can
be read online, donated from 27 cultures in 15 languages.
